Due to recent events in politics with our dreaded new president, times have only continued to get tougher. Amongst the many gut wrenching things Trump has done since being elected, proposing a ban on immigration is at the top of the "You're fired" list. In order to shed a light on the current events occurring in our country, I thought it would be interesting to get an inside look at a young American's point of view who has been directly targeted by Trumptastrophy.

I met up with one of my good friends Lama, who I view as a strong woman and feminist; she also happens to be a first generation American who comes from a Muslim upbringing. I asked Lama what it meant to her to be not only a first generation American during these rough times but also a woman.

Interview:

What does it mean to be a woman in this day and age?

-"I think being a woman in this day and age means more than it ever has. Today women have the opportunity to express their true authentic self to the world. As a woman I think it's very important to confidently voice your opinion, fight for your rights, share your feelings and ideas, and not hold back. I feel like women today are constantly having to prove that they are these intelligent, strong, independent, unapologetic beautiful creatures that can do anything a man can do. I love feeling like I'm apart of a community of badass women- it's extremely inspiring and empowering."

How do you feel about being a first generation American living in a country that now has a leader who shamelessly advocates not wanting immigrants?

-"I feel very downhearted as a first generation American living in a country with Trump as a leader. I disagree with his views on immigration; this country was built by immigrants and is run by immigrants. Living in New York in particular, I've met so many hard working intelligent immigrants who deserve to be here as much as I do, and it's mind boggling that the current president of this country is so insensitive to these people just like me and you; people who are just trying to fulfill their dreams and make a better life for themselves."

What's your stance on Trump's ban of certain immigrants including Muslims, being of a Muslim background?

-"As a person who was raised in a Muslim home, Trump's banning of Muslims leaves me feeling very discouraged. It's always kinda been a pain in the ass growing up here as a Muslim. I feel very grateful though that many non Muslim Americans are fighting against the Muslim ban, and are tremendously supportive of Muslim Americans.

As a woman do you feel you should make your voice heard during these tough times? Or do you prefer to maintain a low profile and hope for the best?

-"As a woman I think it's immensely important to make my voice heard during these times. I hope every woman finds the confidence to voice her opinion and stand for what she believes in. We need to stand together and make sure we are heard!"

What is something you'd like to be remembered for?

-"I wanna be remembered for being a funny badass woman who doesn't give a F**k! I'm kidding I care way too much about literally everything and anything. I just wanna make a difference, I love knowing that I made a positive impact on someone's life, even if it's something small."
