This new video series: "A Walk Around Town" is meant to showcase the young artists and creators of these up and coming times. I will be choosing certain spots that reflect each individual's personalities and follow them around to capture a feel for what they're like, and what they're trying to accomplish through their work.
The series kicks off with Vincent, a personal friend and artist whose current project is to capture the present and portray it as the past. I got to follow Vincent around for the day in SOHO's more hidden, low key spots and interview him to try to get an up close look at what he's trying to accomplish through his work.
Learn more about Vincent:
Would you call yourself a photographer and journalist since you like to write and share your content with the public?
- "I don't think I would label myself as either of those things. I don't know, I feel like I don't want a specific 'title' if that makes sense...I just create photos in my own style and medium that somehow show a reflection of my own self. When it comes to my writings I guess you can just call me a 'culture geek'; I do so many different things."
What do you think sets you apart from others in the same creative field?
-"I am my own. Everything I do, I do it my own way. My goal is to show that in whatever I'm doing, whether it's modeling, photography, writing, or any other creative medium I dabble into, I want people to see it and say 'yup, that's Vincent all right.'"
Which social media outlet do you prefer to market yourself on? Which do you think is more beneficial to showcasing your work and yourself?
-"I'm addicted to Instagram. It's like a hub of so many people who are into the same things as you. You can meet so many people like yourself through it as well so I think it's a great networking tool. Also Tumblr is my baby, I get so much inspo from my Tumblr and it's like a small subliminal outlook to what I'm really thinking and feeling through the times."
Do you think social media helps or hinders what you're trying to do?
-"It helps a lot! It allows me to show my work to a bigger audience around the world, rather than just a gallery in a college. If you have a lot of followers it helps out a lot, but if you don't, just adding hashtags can help make it seen to a larger audience."
Talk a little about your past into present concept.
-"When you look at some of my photography it can be hard to distinguish if it was actually done in the present time or back in the 1990s. I love that. I like to bring a nostalgic feel to all my photographs. I also love minimalism, so most of the time you will not see too much editing or photoshopping in them. I love natural feels and photos that have a mysterious story to them. I also get a lot of inspo from my father's photography, which he did a lot of film work from the late 80s to 90s."
