Clubbing 101

For those of you who have not yet dipped your toes into the club world, or merely want to know the ins and outs of club behavior and how to survive the glitzy party life, here are a few of my personal tips on how to stunt at the club.

1. Find a Fab promoter

The only way to actually get your foot in the door (at least the right way) is to find yourself a top notch club promoter. Once you've met him/her you'll gain access to easy entry and free bottle service, along with a complete entourage of fabulous club kids.

2. Mingle

One of the biggest mistakes most club newbs make is keeping to yourself and maintaining a low profile. If you wanna make an impression on the crew you've got to talk to EVERYONE; you don't have to have long philosophical conversations with them, but at least introduce yourself and make small talk. A lot of the people that frequent these hot spots are potentially working in the same industry as you, and are great networking opportunities.

3. Dress to Impress

An easy way to get noticed in the club scene is to show up wearing a killer ensemble. If you look fab it'll make people gravitate more towards you, and it'll even help starting up a conversation easier. You'll also be more memorable and the chances of you getting past the pesky doormen increases by a lot.

4. Hydrate While You Intoxicate

First thing's first, nobody likes a messy bitch, so if you plan on getting f***ed up and drinking your worries away make sure to get some h2o into your system. One of my little hacks to keeping hydrated is to mix my alcohol with sparkling water rather than throwing in cranberry or orange juice. It may sound gross, but mixing your alcohol with sparkling water is actually a blessing in disguise; you'll have a quarter of the calories, and you'll avert a terrible hangover. If you prefer your liquor with a little flavor, however, then by all means stick to the juices, just don't forget to sip on that agua.

5. Drink Out of a Champagne Glass

If your table is brought champagne make sure to snag one of those glasses. If you're a bougie bitch like me you'll definitely want some bubbly, but keeping the champagne glass for further drinks is also a smart idea. Putting your liquor in a champagne glass prevents your drink from spilling all over that girl's pricy extensions. Let's face it, we all know that one girl (or guy) who fills their glass to the top and starts waving their drink all over the place once "their" song comes on; so let's avoid the spillage and pour your drink in a champagne glass, you'll look cool and help keep your surroundings dry.

6. Avoid Inviting Everyone and Their Mom

To make things easier on yourself don't invite a ton of people to come out. Big groups are nothing but drama and the chances of all of your friends getting in is slim. On more then one occasion, I've seen girls show up in groups of five or greater and the majority of the time not all of them get in, and if they do, the table will be overcrowded. It's also an inconvenience when your friends don't get in because if you're a decent friend you won't leave them out to dry, and there goes your night of fun.

7. Be on time

Being fashionably late to parties is one thing, but making your promoter and his (her) group wait around for you is a total no no. Some manage to get in after the initial walk in but it may be an inconvenience to the promoter, and the chances of getting in becomes a bit harder. By showing up on time you'll be able to start mingling before you get in and you'll snag a good spot at the table.
